about

A true master of atmosphere and mood, David Lynch has inspired me from the first time I bore witness to 'Eraserhead' and all through the decades to his masterwork 'Twin Peaks: The Return.' The latter's 18 episode season largely finds a disoriented audience completely engaged and along for the wild ride. Lynch's direct hand in the screenplay, directing, acting, and scoring show his utter commitment while his artistic vision and technical skills push the boundaries of the medium and instill a sheer sense of awe. Every detail down to the rolling of the end credits demonstrate Lynch's genius ... and then there's Episode 8: arguably television's greatest hour.

'Sculpting Electric: The Return' was recorded live using a Buchla 200e Electric Music Box and Chase Bliss effects. One of the highlights of the setup is the Buchla 272e Polyphonic FM Tuner module, which features 4 FM radios that can be played using control voltages from the Electric Music Box and touch-sensitive ribbon controllers. The resulting recordings evoke the elements, tones, hues, feelings and imagery from David Lynch's enigmatic and epic 18 hour motion picture. Perhaps seen as a gift lovingly bestowed in homage to his audience. His masterpiece at the very least.
